Hi Parents,
Thanks for all the well wishes as I recovered from Strep Throat! Mrs. Colley and Mrs. Cranford held down the fort until I returned on Thursday. I was able to meet with all Guided Reading groups for one session to introduce a new book and assign letters and/or sight words for at home practice. All blue folders are due back on Monday with the book and letters/sight words inside. Be on the lookout for these to come home twice next week! We are working on tracking print left to right with our finger as we read the words. In Math, we will learn to write the numbers 5, 6 and 7. We will practice counting one-on-one correspondence to 10 using ten frames. Our shape this week is square. In Language Arts we will learn to write the letters "Ff" and "Gg" as well as focus on the sounds that they make. We will continue to work on main idea and details when listening to a story (this will help us with comprehension) as we work in Guided Reading groups!! The kiddos were very excited about our first STEM activity today. (Ask them about the magic door between our room and Mrs. Smith's room!!) We "collaborated and communicated" with a partner from Mrs. Smith's Class to think of an animal that starts with the letter that groups were assigned. We will meet again on Monday and Tuesday before we are ready to start creating our animals on Wednesday during our STEM showcase. Tritt will have over 30 visitors from all over the United States to watch us in full "STEM" action!! Our STEM activity is directly related to our Science and Language Arts standards! Who knew we could have fun while learning???? :-) We have been working on Narrative Writing during Writing Workshop. We started with drawing a picture and labeling it using the sounds that we hear when we say the word. Next week, we will begin to try and write a sentence to go with our story!! We will go to the Media Center on Friday. Don't forget to return your book!!!! There will be a Gifted Eligibility Process Informational Meeting on Thursday- see below for details....... Tritt’s Target Team will hold our annual Gifted Eligibility Process Informational Meeting on Thursday, September 1st, at 6:00 p.m. in the ILC. We will explain Cobb County’s eligibility process and criteria for the gifted program. If you are wondering about this process and how it relates to your child or have specific questions, please plan to join us on September 1st! I hope everyone stays healthy and has a wonderful weekend, Mrs. East

Hi Parents,
We had another fabulous week in Kindergarten!! Next week we will learn to write the letters "Dd" and "Ee" and the sounds that they make. Guided Reading folders will come home next week. (You will see the folder either on Monday or Tuesday.) Look for the sticky note inside for the return date. In Math, we will learn to write the numbers 4 and 5. We will review the hexagon and begin working with rectangles. Our first STEM showcase is August 31st, so we will begin communicating and collaborating as we start our first challenge. Students will be teaming up with Mrs. Smith's class to find an animal that starts with an assigned letter. On August 31st, teams will turn that letter into the animal that they picked! We should have some cool transformations!! In the Tritt email blast that was sent out on Wednesday, there was information regarding an attachment from our Guidance department about "Team Up Week". Students need to wear their "Kind is the New Cool" shirts on Monday (if they have one, I know some are waiting for their order) with tennis shoes. Other activities are also listed so make sure to check it out. Picture Day is Wednesday- Don't forget to look your best! This picture will be used in the school yearbook, so everyone will have their picture taken. We went to the ILC/Media Center today to meet Mrs. Bates and check out our very own book! We will go to the Media Center on Thursday for another checkout. Books can be returned any day before we go back.
