Hi Parents,
We finished up our first 9 weeks of school today. Report cards will be given out during your child's conference. All conference forms have been turned in or rescheduled. Remember that we will be on an early dismissal schedule that week with students being dismissed at 12:15. Please send in a note if your child will be doing something different during that week for dismissal. In addition, we have early release on Thursday, October 12th. Please make note of this additional early release date. I will introduce Informational Writing next week during writing workshop. The class loved this genre of writing last year, so I am excited to get started! We are really working on using capitals and periods when writing sentences. Please reinforce this during homework this month. In Math, we are working on word problems to 20 and writing and recognizing numbers to 120. Some of us are still struggling when writing our numbers from 100-120. Please try and send the Guided Reading folders back on the date given on the sticky note. Several students did not have theirs this week. One of our standards for this nine weeks is main idea with supporting details. We will be working on this whole group and during guided reading. The PTA fundraiser kicks off on Wednesday. I will send home a list of class incentives as soon as I share them with the class on Thursday. Mark your calendars for Friday, October 27th from 10:45-11:30, so that you can come and cheer us on during the dash. I am still missing a few forms for the Sound field trip. Please send those in on Monday. Thanks Have a great weekend, Ms. East

Hi Parents,
We survived three days of testing. It took away from a lot of instructional time, so it will be nice to be back on schedule this Monday. Our Social Studies Unit on continents and land forms will end on Wednesday with a test on the 7 continents and the 5 oceans. We will move right into our Science unit on weather beginning on Wednesday. In Math, we are beginning our units on addition, subtraction and word problems. Some papers that are coming home are now marked with a 3, 2 or 1. This is so that you will know the grades that I am recording in the grade book. These grades will be used for the final grades on the report card. Remember that 2 is progressing and 3 is exceeds. Keep in mind that the words consistently and independently need to be there to receive 3. Homework folders went home last Friday. I know that this is not as much as we had in Kindergarten, so I will be changing it up for our class beginning in October. Homework folders do not come back in until the end of the month to be checked. Tritt will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts on Wed. Sept. 20th for RALLY. Donuts $1 each with a max of 2. Students may purchase these on the way to the room via the cafeteria. Have a great weekend, Ms. East Hi Parents,
We had another great week in First Grade as we are settling in nicely to our classroom routine. In Math, we are working on Place Value. We will continue with this standard for another week. In Social Studies, we are learning the 7 continents, oceans and land forms. We will take a test on the land forms on Monday. The student's flip books came home on Thursday. I hope they shared them with you. If you still have them, it wouldn't hurt to go over them this weekend as a review! In Language Arts, I will introduce the skill of ask and answer. We will be asking questions about a book before we read it and then answer those questions at the end. Students will be in partners to practice this skill after a couple of model lessons have been done together. We are ramping up for our first STEM challenge. We are in need of individual plastic fruit or applesauce snack cups. If your child has that for a snack this weekend, please send in the container for our STEM challenge. Thanks Please turn in Performing Arts forms. We need the signed permission for them to participate. Thank you to all the parents that donated items from our "Helping Hands" wall. Have a great weekend, Ms. East It was great to see everyone at Open House. Here are a couple key points from last night in cased you missed or need a reminder:
1. Guided Reading Folders will begin to come home next week. Refer to the sticky inside the folder as to when it should be returned. 2. FAST classes start on Monday. Please let me know if you have signed up your child. I need to know the class and the day that they will attend. 3. If you want your child on the permanent ice-cream list, I need a note. 4. CO-GAT Testing will be September 6th, 7th and 8th. 5. I will start sending home cards for good behavior beginning on Monday. Some of the cards will be the same as last year; however,I have added a card for "good listener" and "quiet mouse". If they have a yellow card, you will have a note from me with an explanation. 6. The students will have the opportunity to ago for a morning run in the gym every Monday. They must have on tennis shoes to participate. I forgot to go over homework last night. We will begin homework the first week of September. I will send home a folder with a choice board inside. Your child will need to complete 5 activities from the choice board each month. More info to follow. Specials next week: M-Computer Lab T- PE W- Music Th-Art F-PE Irish sent out a sign-up genius for Mystery Reader. If you did not receive it, please email her at [email protected] I hope everyone has a great weekend, Ms. East Hi Parents,
We loved having our mothers come for muffins on Thursday. The kiddos did such a great job with the songs and poem and were very excited to show moms their special gifts. We have a busy week next week. A letter was sent home on Thursday mapping out the events for the week. Please refer to that for reminders of what students need to wear and bring each day. Also, I wanted to add that if your child is a girl, make sure that if they are wearing a denim or blue skirt for the Kindergarten Program, that they have shorts on underneath. Students will be sitting during the performance. Also, just wanted to give a heads up as to where our class will be located on the stage, so that you can get the best view! As you face the stage and risers in the cafeteria, we are on the risers to the far right. We are on the stage, not on the risers on the floor. Make sure and get to Tritt early to get a good seat. Parking will be a problem, so be prepared. We have finished Guided Reading Groups for the year. All folders are due back on Monday. I have some here that I did not get to with our crazy day yesterday. I will send these back home next week with their current sight word bags (if they have one) and a First Grade sight word list to work on over the summer. I hope everyone has a great weekend, Mrs. East Hi Parents,
We had a very busy day getting ready for our STEM showcase tomorrow. We will be using the plants that were brought in today to design a new plant. If you did not send in any plants, we would welcome any additional plants for tomorrow. If you are planning on attending the showcase, I hope you will stop by our room and see the fun challenge the kiddos will be participating in. Last week was the last "official" week of homework. I still have the homework journals and will send them home this week. Guided Reading folders will still be coming home this week and next. You can still continue to access the online reading program and I encourage you to do so throughout the summer! Please return you RSVP to our Moms for Muffins ASAP. Please make sure that someone can come in your place if you are unable to attend. This event is scheduled for May 11th at 7:45. We are in desperate need of Clorox wipes for our tables. If you are out and about, we would love a donation. Thanks Kindergarten will have our annual Beach Day on May 17th. We would like the students to wear "beachy" attire. It is almost time for our winter break to begin. When the students return, we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss, his birthday is March 2nd, with daily school wide activities. Below is the schedule. The activities are optional, but we would love for students to participate:
Mrs. Colley and I would like to thank you for all of our valentine treats that we received on Tuesday from the students. We were showered with flowers, candy and valentine cards!! The students loved opening their valentines and seeing all of their goodies inside their boxes. I hope everyone enjoys the week off, Mrs. East Hi Parents,
We have been very busy getting ready for Dads for Donuts. We will entertain our dads with songs and enjoy some juice, coffee and donuts on February 9th at 7:30. Dad, please be here on time! If your child's bus is not one of the early ones, please bring them with you. Next week, we will learn all about George Washington and the Washington Monument for our Social Studies standards. During our phonics lessons, we are learning that silent "e" at the end of the word makes the vowel say its name. We will compare numbers in Math and continue with addition word problems and facts. Directions for making a valentine box and class list for addressing valentines will come home on Monday. We are going to give you time to work on addressing your valentines and work on your boxes for homework for several nights next week, as we know this takes time. Get ready for the Tritt Family Dance next Friday, February 10th at Tritt. This is a big family fun event. The students love coming and dancing with their classmates as well as with Mrs. East. The theme is "Hollywood" so get your outfits ready now! I hope to see everyone there. The Kindergarten session is from 6:00-7:00. Field Trip forms for Diamond Dell are due on February 10th.
