Hi Parents,
We had a very busy week with the Tritt-Mazing Race, Pop,Boom, Bang sound presentation, the class Halloween party and a STEAM showcase today!! WOW!! The kiddos were really tired today from trick-or-treating last night, but they woke up quickly when we were in the Tritt Nature Nook planting lettuce seeds in the freezing cold at 9:30 this morning! HA Just a reminder, there is no school on Tuesday, November 5th. Also, please make sure that you are returning the green guided reading folders on the date marked on the yellow sticky inside. We had a good week with groups and I want to keep that going again next week. Here is what we are learning next week: Writing- Informational Writing- The students are very excited to write facts about their favorite animals to make a teaching book for their classmates to read. Math- Subtraction from 20 using various strategies (number line, ten frame, pictures or counting backwards) and Fact Families Reading/Language Arts-Main Idea and supporting details Science/Social Studies- We will finish up sound on Monday and begin learning about Benjamin Franklin beginning on Wednesday. We are to our last week of school in September. We will end our week with a visit to Pike's Nursery to learn about plants and seasons to go along with our year long STEAM project of planting in different seasons. Please turn in the field trip permission form if you have not done so already. Chaperones need to be here at 11:20. Meet us in our classroom. Here is what we will be learning the week of September 16th: Writing- Narrative- small moment stories Math- Subtraction using various strategies (number line, ten frame, pictures or counting backwards) Reading/Language Arts- Ask and answer questions to help understand what we are reading Science- Different types of weather Over Fall Break, I would like for you to take a picture of your child doing an activity (small moment) that they can use to write about their fall break. If you go to the beach, it could be of them building a sand castle or jumping in the waves. It could be in front of a movie theater or from Stars and Strikes. It could even be just playing in your playroom or outside in your backyard. We will use these pictures to springboard their next small moment narrative writing. We had another fast week in First Grade. We were very excited to go to the Media Center this week and check out books. We are going again on Monday to check out new books. Make sure to bring your books, so you can get two new ones for the week. On Friday, we have our first guidance counselor's lesson with Mrs. Edwards. Here's what we are learning: Reading- Beginning/ Middle / End Math- Compose and Decompose numbers using tens and ones Writing- Narrative Social Studies- Needs/Wants and Scarcity I hope everyone has a great weekend, Ms. East Hi Parents,
Wow, we had a great rest of our week after Open House. The students were excited to start earning cards for Excellent Effort and Role Model. We had several students go home "On Fire" as well. Thank you for your support with this. I loved hearing about all of the rewards they were working towards. Here's are learning targets for this week: Reading- We will continue to identify the characters and setting. Math- We will write numbers from a given number. Writing- We are finishing our narrative "All About Me". Social Studies- We will learn our continent, country, state and city and be able to locate them on a map. Don't forget to send in a spiral notebook for homework. I would like to have all of those by Monday of next week so that I can start getting them ready for September. We had a great two days in First Grade. We have been going over class rules and getting to know our classmates. We are almost done sharing our bags- we have loved learning about our classmates favorite things! Next week, I will begin assessing students on sight word recognition, so that we can get into Guided Reading Groups in the next couple of weeks. Next week we will begin moving into more of a "regular" routine. Here's what we will be up to next week: Reading- We will read several books identifying the characters and setting in each. Math- We will practice counting and writing our numbers to 120. Writing- We will use our bags to generate our first Narrative writing- "All About Me". Social Studies- Respect and building community Next Week Specials: Monday-PE Tuesday- Art Wednesday- Music Thursday- PE Friday- Science Lab Tuesday is Open House. Welcome to First Grade!! I am very excited to get this school year started. I hope everyone had a nice summer filled with at least one great vacation and a lot of time staying cool at the pool! Meet and Greet is Tuesday from 9:00-9:45. Please bring all supplies on the supply list to Meet and Greet. Please do not label anything with student's names, I have labels for everything. You can put your child's name on the outside of the bag that you bring their supplies in. I will sort and label everything after meet and greet. Their supplies will be labeled and on their table the first day of school. Additional Supplies: Please add 1 spiral notebook (any color) to the supply list for homework. We had a very busy week. We loved our STEAM challange of making habitats that had to include the 4 things animals need to survive. Ask your child to tell you what the 4 things are!! Guided Reading folders did not come home this past week. I was busy assessing for the upcoming report card. They will come home next week. Report cards will go live on Friday, March 22nd. Here's what we are learning: Language Arts- Using conjunctions in sentences Reading- Distinguish between information provided by pictures and text when reading Math- 2D shapes Writing- Review all types of writing Social Studies- George Washington Carver Announcements: 1. I still have several families that have not returned the field trip form for the zoo. Please get that in next week, so I will have an accurate chaperone count. 2. We will be making shadow puppets to act out a play on kindness. -Don't forget your Valentine's box and valentines on Wednesday. -Picture day is Thursday. I can't believe it is already February! Here is what we will be doing next week: Language Arts- We will be learning the sounds of Long E. (ea, ee) Reading- Point of View Math- 10 more/ 10 less from a given number using a hundreds board Writing- Opinion Writing Social Studies- Review continents, oceans and landforms Announcements: Valentine's Day-We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Wednesday, February 13th. Instructions and a class list will come home on Monday with the homework notebooks. Their are 3 days built in the homework schedule for making your box and addressing your valentines. Tritt Family Dance is next Friday, February 8th. Ms. East will be there to dance the night away with the class. I hope to see everyone there!!
