Hi Parents,
Getting back into the routine has been rough for these kiddos (and the teacher, if I am being honest) HA. Just when we get back, we get out early for snow and then miss Monday and Tuesday. We have no school this Monday, January 16th, in observation of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Hopefully, we will get back on a steady routine after that! I put a new homework calendar in the back of the red folders today. We will start back with homework next week. Since we have missed some extra days, please help me with extra sight word and reading practice at home. We will go to the ILC on Friday for a lesson and check out, Don't forget to return your book. In Math, we are beginning to learn basic addition facts to 5. I will introduce Opinion Writing on Tuesday. Students will write their own opinions on the season of winter. Is it or is it not their favorite season and why. Doughnuts for Dad is quickly approaching. Invitations went home on Thursday. If Dad is unavailable, please make sure that someone comes in his place. Next week, we will read Rumplestiltskin and Jack and the Beanstalk. We will look for characteristics of a fairy tale. Ask your child to tell you some characteristics of a Fairy Tale. We will write about our favorite parts of these stories in our Fairy Tale Journals. In Math, we are working on solving addition and subtraction word problems, writing numbers to 20 to label sets and writing numbers that come before and after a given number. We will learn about the Statue of Liberty, one of our national symbols, to meet one of our Social Studies standards for this nine weeks. Helpers Line Leader- Emmett Teacher's Helper- Luke Caboose- Christopher Clean-up- Charlotte Bearsonality- Ansley Guessing Jar- Anna Sophia Secret Sack- Vincent Please continue to practice sight words and reread the books that are coming home in the Guided Reading Folders. I started assessing sight words for the next nine weeks report card and some students were very rusty on their words. Mr. Guinta, our Science Lab teacher, will be posting pictures on his blog of what our class is doing. Make sure to check it out!! Happy Friday, Mrs. East Hi Parents,
We had a fun week in Kindergarten with all the "Dash" activities! We had a "Disco Dance Party" first thing Monday morning followed by a "Fall Center Celebration". (Thanks to all the parents that came and provided the craft and games for us). On Tuesday, we went to Chimney Springs Park. It was a beautiful day and the students had a blast. (Another shout out to the moms that came with us to help chaperone). Wednesday, we had "sno cones" for posting the fastest time in Kindergarten during the Tiger Dash. Today, we watched as Dr. Patterson, Mrs. Keesling and Mrs. DeMeester became human sundaes. It was a successful fundraiser! Thank you for all of your support, Tritt is the best!!! Next week, we will learn facts about Native Americans and Pilgrims and how they contributed to the first Thanksgiving. We will write about them in our writing journals. We are really working hard on remembering to capitalize the first letter in our sentences and put a punctuation mark at the end. In Math, we are continuing to compare numbers using the words more, less and equal to. We are also working on writing the numbers 1-20 correctly when labeling a set. What an awesome week in Kindergarten!! The Tiger Dash was so fun and, of course, our class finished the obsticles with the fastest time! We also were the only class at Tritt to have 6 goals! Wow!!! We will have our Disco Dance Party on Monday in the gym with the other Kindergarten classes that also made the 4th goal. Next week, we will write the letters "U" and "V". In Social Studies, we will begin to talk about Thanksgiving focusing on the Native Americans and how they helped the colonists survive when they came to Plymouth. We are comparing numbers in Math. Monday is also "Hat Day". Students may wear a hat , no masks, if they bring a dollar. All proceeds go to the RAllY Foundation. We will also have our class "Fall Center Celebration" that day. Thanks to all the Moms that volunteered to help and organize this event. I am in the process of weeding out the sight word baggies. The words that the students know really well, will be put in another baggie that you may keep for review. Please make sure that you pull these words out at least 2 to 3 times a month...they will forget them! We will go to Chimney Springs Park on Tuesday for our 5th Goal. Details are in the red folder today. Please return the permission forms ASAP. Thank you so much for coming to conferences this week. I enjoyed meeting with each of you to talk about your child and their growth this last nine weeks. We are becoming great beginning readers, writers and mathematicians!! Next week, we will focus on the letters "Ss" and "Tt". We will learn how to write these letters and review the sounds that they make by writing 3 letter words on wipe-off boards. In Math, we will learn how to compare objects by length and height. We will incorporate Science into our Writing Workshop as we write the stages of how a pumpkin grows. We will focus on using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence and a punctuation mark at the end. On Thursday, we will have Diane Shore, author of Bus-a-saurus Bop, visiting Tritt to share her book and Friday is the Tiger Dash!! We will be participating in the Dash from 11:30-12:15. Please come cheer us on as we "dash" through Tritt's very own obstacle course for the conclusion of our PTA fundraiser! Our final habitat was introduced on Thursday. Students will be put into one of the 5 habitats on Monday and begin planning to create an animal that lives in that habitat. Animals will be created on Wednesday. Thanks to our volunteers coming in to help! We couldn't do it without you! The traditional Kindergarten Animal Olympics is scheduled for Friday, September 23rd. Information is in the red folders today. Students need to bring in a stuffed animal on Monday. The animal will stay at school all week and be returned on Friday. Please don't send in an animal that your child is not okay with leaving at school. Tritt teachers will face Mt. Bethel teachers in a kickball game to benefit The Rally Foundation on Tuesday, September 20th. I will not be playing, but will be there for crowd control. If you aren't busy, come out and support Tritt and Rally. Game is at Walton High Schooll at 5:00. We will go to the Media Center on Thursday of next week to check out a new book. We had a very busy week with only 4 days! Next week, we will focus on the letters "Jj" and "Kk". We will learn to write these letters using the correct strokes as well as their sounds. In Math, we will learn to write the numbers 9 and 10. Duriing Math stations, students will practice recognizing numbers to 20 and those that are ready will move onto 30. In Science we will finish learning the last 3 habitats, woodlands, grasslands and rain forest. We will begin creating animals that live in those habitats the week of September 19th. I will need 5 parent volunteers to come and help with this STEM activity. I will need these volunteers on Wednesday, September 21st from 9:30-11:00. Please email me if you can help. Since September is the harvest season, we will be doing several fun activities with apples. Please send in 1 apple (It can be any color or variety) by Tuesday, September 13th. We will compare our apples by size and color and use them on Friday to make applesauce. Yum,Yum One of our Social Studies standards for this nine weeks is stating our street address and city. Please work on this over the next two weeks at home to help with mastery. Our first week of homework is under our belts. I hope it wasn't too painful! Please make sure that you are only doing one activity a night. We want students to set up a nightly homework routine. I forgot to mention at Open House that I would like student to do all of their "writing " work in pencil. Also, markers tend to bleed through the pages, so let's just use crayons or colored pencils. Helpers Line Leader-Marshall Teacher's Helper- Leah Caboose-Annabelle Clean-up-Quinn Bearsonality is Caroline. Secret Sack will come home with Ansley. Guessing Jar will come home with Emmett.
